VOLUNTEERS

OUR TIME WILL COME, SO SMILE
by: Sherry Williams

On this special day we honor volunteers, so I send to you a wish for joy and peace throughout the year.
I think of you as a real good friend and a fellow Girl Scout too, but on this day, I think of you for all you say and do.
So please continue to give your heart to every little girl, and the day will come when you will sit among the special and the few.

The pearly gates will open as the Girl Scouts march straight through, for each of us will know that we have done the best that we could do. Our deeds are done, our life we shared; and now the time has come, to lay our heads down peacefully until the morning sun.

When we awake we’ll all look down and see what we have done; and a smile will come across our face, as
the troops march one by one. A leader waves up to the sky, and we stop to wonder why, and then without a reason at all, we each begin to cry.

The wave was just her simply way of saying thanks to us, for all of the love and guidance we gave while she was growing up. WOW, now we see our victory; the people we have touched, and now we know that our love and care shall continue without us.

We now see our girls as doctors, lawyers and leaders too; and it is nice to know that they are giving back, just like me and you. Your time on earth was wonderful, but your time here will be grand, for you are among the richest of the Girl Scout Leader clan.

So smile; you now have time to stop and sew patches on that shirt, and smile; you have now become a True Green Angel for all of your hard work!!!!

EXTRA TIME

One woman takes her time
And knits it into lace
Another takes her extra time
And embroiders a pillow case.

The lace may wear a year or two
Perhaps go out of style.
The colors of embroideries fade
in just a little while.

But she who ties here extra time
In lives of lad and lass
Produces that which shall endure
When time and tide shall pass.

WHAT ARE VOLUNTEERS?

Volunteers are like Ford
They have better ideas.

Volunteers are like Coke
They are the real thing.

Volunteers are like Continental
They make the going great.

Volunteers are like Pepsi
They've got a lot to give.

Volunteers are like Dial soap
They care more.

Volunteers are like VO-5 hairspray
Their goodness holds in all kinds of weather.

Volunteers are like Hallmark Cards
They care enough to give the very best.

But most of all, volunteers are like Frosted
Flakes because
THEY'RE GREAT!

GIRL SCOUT LEADER'S POEM

My dishes went unwashed today
I didn't make the bed
I took her hand and went with her
To Girl Scout's instead.

That my house was neglected
That I didn't sweep the stairs
In twenty years no one on earth
Will know or even care.

But that I helped a little girl
From child to adulthood grow
In twenty years, the whole wide world
Will look and see and know.

VOLUNTEERS

Many will be shocked to find,
When the day of judgment nears,
That there's a special place in Heaven
Set aside for volunteers.
Furnished with big recliners,
Satin couches and footstools,
Where there are no committee chairmen,
No yard sales or rest area coffee to serve,
No library duty or bulletin assembly,
There will be nothing to print and staple,
Not one thing to fold and mail,
Telephone lists will be outlawed.
But a finger snap will bring
Cool drinks and gourmet dinners
And rare treats fit for a king.
You ask, "Who'll serve these privileged few
And work for all they're worth?"
Why, all those who reaped the benefits,
And not once volunteered on Earth!
